We are breaking the logjam

Throughout a career spanning more than 30 years, Mr. Howell has worked with the senior management teams of corporations, organizations, and governments to address their real estate portfolios’ strategic needs, successfully completing structured finance transactions and projects valued at more than $5 billion. He has advised many Fortune 500 and Global 1000 clients, including IBM, T-Mobile, Westfield Corp., TD Bank, Johnson Controls, Manpower, USAA, Agilent, Lucent Technologies, and many others.

Previous to his role at Graecrest, Mr. Howell was a Managing Director at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) a leading global provider of commercial real estate services, where he served as Account Executive for the T-Mobile account, with responsibility for over 200 employees and revenue of $23 million.  He was also a senior member of JLL’s Strategic Consulting practice, providing consulting solutions to corporate clients.  He was responsible for portfolio and financial strategies, new business development, customer relationship management, service delivery, and quality assurance.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Howell led the Americas real estate strategic consulting practice for Johnson Controls, Inc. (JCI) a Fortune 100 global manufacturing, engineering, and services conglomerate, where he was focused on optimizing performance, value, and cost across the global portfolios of corporations headquartered in the western hemisphere.  While at JCI he also personally led several major headquarters net lease and sale-leaseback transactions, including an innovative portfolio sale-leaseback that granted the seller-lessee the right to substitute properties from time to time for the purpose of maintaining maximum operating flexibility.

Prior to his tenure at JCI he was a Vice President in the Real Estate Investment Banking group at JP Morgan & Co., Inc. where he was responsible for structuring and executing major public- and private-market debt and equity financing transactions in support of clients’ strategic objectives, and served as a permanent member of the Bank’s real estate credit committee.

Mr. Howell began his real estate career as a Program Manager in IBM’s Real Estate and Construction Division, where he served as an internal consultant to the C-Suite on global real estate matters, and was also responsible for structuring and negotiating IBM’s combined equity and leasehold interests in, and third-party funding for, more than a dozen major joint-venture development projects across the United States.

Mr. Howell received an MBA in finance from Columbia University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Princeton University.  While at Columbia he was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Society in recognition of high academic achievement.  He has been an active member of CoreNet Global, where he co-led the Optimizing Capital task force in the Strategy and Portfolio Planning community of practice. He is a regularly featured presenter, moderator, panelist, and author.
